Bayyari Elementary School was recognized as a Promising Practices Professional Learning Community at Work school today at a special celebration.
“We are extremely proud and excited for this recognition of the hard work our school has put in over the last three years as part of the Division of Elementary Secondary Education and Solution Tree PLC grant cohort,” said Mary Mullican, Bayyari Elementary School principal. “Our teachers and staff have worked hard to implement change to support all students in reaching higher levels of achievement each year.”
Promising Practices schools demonstrate a commitment to the PLC at Work process, implement the concepts for at least one or two years, present clear evidence of student learning and explain the culture, practices and structures of their school. Additionally, 1-2 years of consecutive data showing student improvement is submitted.
"Our success is contributed to our shared mission and vision. We worked together to have all voices heard for a common goal," Mullican said. "We know our 'why, what and how.' We have created solid systems to ensure that all students are taught grade-level essential standards and, if needed, additional time and support are also provided."
Springdale Public Schools administrators, Arkansas Department of Education representatives, School Board members, Solution Tree representatives and valued community partners attended the event.
Earning the Promising Practices designation is the initial step in becoming a Model PLC at Work School.
All 31 Springdale Schools participate in the PLC process. The process is built upon participating schools having a focus on learning, having a collaborative culture, having collective responsibility and being results oriented.
Teachers participating in the PLC process work in collaborative teams to answer the following questions:
- What do we want our students to learn?
- How will we know when students learn it?
- What do we do when students don’t learn it?
- What do we do when schools have learned it?
Springdale Schools strives to be a model PLC district.
Sonora Elementary School received the Promising Practices Professional Learning Community at Work designation in April and was the first-ever school to receive the recognition.
